RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. — Kali Thompson paced Central Main Community College in points, rebounds and assists in a 64-32 win over Vermont Tech in a Yankee Small College Conference women’s basketball matchup Thursday.
Thompson was the lone Mustangs (15-0, 7-0 YSCC) player in double figures, with 15 points, and four of her seven rebounds came at the offensive end. She also dished out three of Central Maine’s 13 assists.
Oxford Hills grad Jade Smedberg totaled eight points, five rebounds and two steals, and Lewiston grad Emily Strachan pitched in with five points, five rebounds and two assists.
Tay Finnikin led the Knights (2-6, 1-4 YSCC) with 15 points and seven rebounds.
COLLEGE SKIING
BATES HOSTS DAY ONE OF CARNIVAL: The first of two days of Alpine competition at the Bates Carnival took place at Sunday River, with the Bobcats hosting 13 other college teams.
The Bates men and women combined for 92 points on day one, good for ninth place.
On the men’s side, junior captain Bo Underhill paced the Bobcats with a two-run combined time of 2:05.93, 14th-fastest on the day. The top-finishing Bates female was junior Avery Leonard, whose combined time of 2:16.15 was 41st-fastest on the women’s side.
Day two of the Bates Carnival is scheduled for Friday at Sunday River.
