LIVERMORE FALLS — The First Baptist Church Worship Service began at 10:30 a.m. on March 5. Kay King Watson led the service with Maggie Houlihan as organist and Margaret Emery as pianist. Kay welcomed the congregation and read the announcements. She led us as we sang two songs of praise: “Come, Christians, Join to Sing”, and “Lead Me, Lord”. She then read the Call To Worship from Psalm 95, verses 1 – 3.
She announced Prayer Time and prayers were offered for friends and family in need of prayer, followed by The Lord’s Prayer. We sang the Hymn, “Sing Praise to God, Who Reigns Above”. As the Ushers passed the offering plates, Maggie and Margaret played “He’s Still Workin’ On Me”. Special Music was offered by the Worship Team as they sang: “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder”.
As introduction to her Sermon, Kay read scriptures from the Book of Luke, chapter 23, verses 39 – 43. Last Sunday, Rev. Thayer titled his Sermon, “Last Words of Jesus – Forgive”. Continuing that theme, the sermon for the day was titled, “Last Words of Jesus – Paradise”. Kay reiterated the story of the Crucifixion and spoke of the three men hanging side by side: both men were criminals.
The man on the left of Jesus as very angry and did not feel he should be hanged, and he did not believe that Jesus was the Chosen zone and could not perform miracles. He shouted insults at Jesus and asked Jesus why he did not save himself if He was truly Christ. The man to the right of Jesus was a believer and stopped the angry man from shouting at Jesus.
He told him that because they were criminals, they should be punished by death. But he said that Jesus was innocent and had done nothing wrong. He said to Jesus: “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom!” Jesus said to him: “Listen! What I say is true: Today you will be with me in Paradise!” Jesus chose to give His life for you and me, and we need to love zhim and live a Godly life as He would have us live.
The last Hymn we sang was, “When We All Get to Heaven”. To end the Service, we celebrated Communion, then circled the Sanctuary and sang, “Blest Be the Tie That Binds”.
