FARMINGTON — A forum on caring for Earth is being planned by members of Old South Church, First Congregational Church of Farmington, United Church of Christ, for Saturday, April 1.
The conference, featuring free eco-friendly workshops, informational talks, and lunch, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the 235 Main St. church.
Earth Care Forum: Workshops for a Hopeful Future will focus on practical steps people can take to contribute positively to the future health of the planet and save on future energy costs. Composting, Earth-friendly landscaping, heat pumps, electric and hybrid vehicles, available subsidies for home modifications and appliances, and solar energy are some of the sessions from which attendees can choose, according to a news release from Sherry Jenckes, one of the event organizers.
“We’d like to provide people with practical steps and answers to their questions about common actions they might take to positively impact the environment,” said Jenckes. “Our group, the ‘Outreach, Justice, Witness’ committee, seeks to support the needs of the community as we encounter them. In this case, we feel there is a desire in the community to find ways to support a more hopeful environmental future.”
Workshops will be offered in morning and afternoon sessions, and there will be a lunch hour during which soup, bread and desserts will be provided and attendees can browse information tables and displays.
Old South Church is fully accessible to those with mobility impairments.
