If not, there should be. If you fly in New England, you’ve probably found yourself stuck in the most depressing airport in America.
And now it’s official. Of the top 100 most habitually late flights in America, 40 of them take off or land in Newark, according to the federal Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
The reasons are obvious when you think about it. Squeezed between Washington and New York, the skyways in and out are just too crowded.
The airport, meanwhile, is badly in need of a redesign to accommodate increased air traffic. Throw in some lousy weather and you have the makings of a good long sit.
Does the sun ever shine in Newark? If it does, we’ve never seen it. The place is perpetually gloomy, the airport dirty and crowded and the employees surly.
The single worst flight in America? Newark to Atlanta. The ticket time says 1 hour 20 minutes. But 60 percent of the time that flight takes more than four hours, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Now that’s a connection to avoid.
