I am a college student, studying to be a vet tech. To me, the correct and ethical treatment of animals is of the utmost importance.

I feel the same courtesy and protections should be extended to our own species. Fetuses are human beings in a stage of development. They are no less valuable than a baby who has been birthed into the world.

It is baffling to me that we do not offer equal, if not greater, protection to our own young than we offer to animals. We prosecute for animal abuse. As a society, we celebrate the murder of our young.

For Maine to be considering a bill that would allow the murder of babies who passed the point of viability is incomprehensible to me. There are so many families who would adopt.

I live with the incredible legacy of adoption and choosing life. My mother was born to a teen mother, and my grandparents chose to create a family with her and my uncle.

Maine should stand against the destruction of lives. Create families. Our future depends on it.
