WATERVILLE — Abby Orso pitched a five-hitter and drove in two runs in the opener, and Sam Ahlholm allowed only four hits in the second game as Colby swept a softball doubleheader against Bates, 7-0 and 2-1, in Waterville.
Logan Luebbe and Chloe Wilcox homered for the Mules (14-8, 3-3 NESCAC) in Game 1. In the second game, Emma Burnham tied the game with an RBI single in the second, and Luebbe singled home the go-ahead run in the third.
Kennedy Jones drove in the only Bates (10-8, 4-4) run with a first-inning double in Game 2.
THOMAS SWEEPS UMF: The Terriers (11-8) took both games of a doubleheader against the Beavers (2-10) in Farmington.
Thomas won the first game 7-0 and then rolled to an 18-4 victory in the second.
Kelsey Currier tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener, striking out eight and walking two in seven innings. She also had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs.
The Terriers opened the second game with an 11-run first inning. Megan Oberholzer, the winning pitcher, finished with a team-high three hits, one of them a double, scored three runs and drove in two.
The UMaine-Farmington was again held to two hits by Bella Miller and Megan Wilson, who also had the Beavers two hits in the first game.
MEN’S LACROSSE
TUFTS 20, BATES 7: The top-ranked Jumbos (12-0, 7-0 NESCAC) built a 13-3 halftime lead en route to a win over the Bobcats (1-10, 0-8) in Medford, Massachusetts.
Connor Hartman scored twice and Cooper Lance had a goal and three assists for Bates.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
TUFTS 16, BATES 6: The Jumbos (9-2, 5-1 NESCAC) broke up a close game with a 7-0 advantage in the third quarter against the Bobcats (5-8, 1-7) in Lewiston.
Maddy Roelofs scored twice for Bates.
