Board: Sabattus selectmen
Met: Tuesday night
Issue: The town became owner of the former Webster Rubber Co. mill this summer after a tax default. Selectmen authorized spending up to $25,000 to secure the building with boards and a fence, and mow the property. It was in such rough shape that liability insurance was estimated at $5,000.
The scoop: Since all that work was done, the insurance cost came in at $860.
Up next: Almighty Waste is cleaning up asbestos cement board from a small outbuilding at the site.
Committee news
Issue: Selectmen named Steve Caron, Connie Castonguay, Ron Caron, Raymond Asselin and Stacy Dostie to the new Veterans Memorial Park Committee.
Issue: The board also unanimously approved creating a new Sabattus Gazebo Committee. Norm LaPlante asked about forming the committee, hoping to see a gazebo built at the town office.
Odds and ends
Issue: The winter sand contract went to low bidder Pat Cyr Trucking at $4.99 a yard delivered.
Issue: The Sabattus Fire Department’s Muster Team took home 11 trophies from the Topsham Fair, according to Selectman Andre Marquis.
Issue: Town Manager Rick Bates said the Main Street sidewalk project is moving along and that bids might be accepted this fall.Â
