MEXICO — A group of Firefighters from Mexico will attend the 9/11 ceremony in Freeport.  The event includes the unveiling of a memorial constructed out of two beams from the World Trade Center.

Mexico Fire Chief Gary Wentzell stated that 10 to 12 firefighters will travel in one of the department’s engines Sunday, Sept. 11.

The town of Freeport has planned a three-day event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of attack in New York City. The Freeport Masonic Lodge has been working for three years to bring the two beams from New York to Freeport.  They arrived in May by a convoy of state and local police, Maine’s Patriot Guard and more than 200 motorcyclists.

Mexico Police Explorers are also planning on attending with the newly acquired Humvee, Sgt. Roy Hodsdon said.

The Freeport Masonic Lodge will conduct a cornerstone ceremony at 2 p.m. at Main and West streets. For further details and times contact the Town of Freeport at 865-4743.
