LEWISTON — The Lewiston baseball team plated eight runs in the first inning and cruised to its first win of the season by blanking Camden Hills 11-0 in five innings Friday.
The Blue Devils (1-11) added three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Ethan Blue’s inside-the-park home run. Blue hit the ball so deep into the gap that Lewiston coach Chris Reed said the ball had barely made it back to the infield by the time Blue scored.
Michael Caron hit a triple and drove in four runs for the Blue Devils, and Lonnie Thomas drove in two runs with a two-out single during their big first inning.
Brandon Farinas pitched all five innings for Lewiston. He allowed three hits, walked two and struck out three Windjammers (1-10).
DIRIGO 6, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 5: The Cougars (7-3) overcame the rival Falcons (3-8) when Charlie Houghton’s walk-off hit with two outs in the bottom of the seventh broke a 5-5 tie in Dixfield.
Mountain Valley put pressure on Dirigo from the start, scoring a run in the top of the first inning, and maintained it throughout the game. Three times the Falcons took the lead, and three times the Cougars responded to even the score.
Both teams finished with 10 hits.
Trenton Hutchinson tripled and recorded a game-high three hits, and freshman Trevor Crosby drove in three runs on two hits for Dirigo. Austin Adams and Dylen Packard also had two hits.
Houghton pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win.
Zach New had two hits and scored two runs for the Falcons. Jakob Lapointe also had two hits, a double and single, and drove in a run and scored one. Kaden Paaso doubled and scored twice, and Colby Frisbie doubled and drove in a run.
LISBON 15, MADISON 1: Levi Tibbetts pitched a one-hitter while collecting three hits of his own at the plate to lead the Greyhounds (8-3) past the Bulldogs (3-8) in five innings in Lisbon.
Tibbetts had one of Lisbon’s two doubles and also singled twice while driving in five runs and scoring three. On the mound, he walked one batter and struck out 11 in five innings.
Jack Ramich had the other Greyhound double and also singled. Keeghan Morrissette also had a pair of hits, while Aiden Parker drove in four runs and Cody Osmond added two RBIs.
Xavier Estes had the lone hit for Madison, which scored its run in the top of the first inning. Deacon Morton struck out four on the mound, and Jayden Horton punched out three more in relief.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 12, HALL-DALE 2: Sammy Calder made big contributions on the mound and at the plate in the Mustangs’ (11-1) six-inning victory over the Bulldogs (4-8) in Monmouth.
Calder pitched five innings, striking out six and allowing two hits, both in the first inning, to earn the win. He also hit a triple and two doubles.
“He had fun,” Monmouth coach Eric Palleschi said.
Matt Marquis also had three hits for Monmouth and drove in two runs. Owen Harding, who had one of the Mustangs’ four doubles, and Brandon Smith also contributed two RBIs apiece. Kyle Palleschi had a triple and a single and Luke Harmon doubled.
Keegan Cary and Eben Austin each hit a double for Hall-Dale. Starting pitcher Ben Nathan struck out three batters in three innings and reliever Cody Dupont fanned one in three innings.
MT. ABRAM 10, CARRABEC 0: Three Roadrunners (8-3) pitchers combined on a five-inning no-hitter in a win over the Cobras (1-8) in Salem Township.
Kaden Pillsbury pitched the first three innings, then Logan Dube and Bryce Wilcox each dealt for a frame.
Mt. Abram opened its scoring with a six-run third. Trey Pease drove in the first two runs. The Roadrunners added four in the fourth to bring the 10-run rule into play. Kaden Pillsbury tripled and Tucker Plouffe doubled in the game for Mt. Abram.
Connor Peabody gave up six hits in four innings for Carrabec.
OAK HILL 22, BOOTHBAY/WISCASSET 0: Kyle Delano homered and doubled and pitched the first three innings to help power the Raiders (10-2) to a win against Boothbay/Wiscasset (3-8) in Boothbay Harbor.
Cooper Spencer had three of Oak Hill’s nine hits, and Zak Bean matched Delano with two. Delano drove in four runs, Spencer tallied three RBI, and Ethan Vattaso and Grayson Letourneau each recorded two.
Trent Drouin pitched the final two innings, striking out three while giving up two hits. Delano punched out five and allowed two hits.
ST. DOMINIC 17, TRAIP ACADEMY 4: Miles Frenette hit a home run to lead the offense for the Saints (9-3) in a win over the Rangers (2-11) at Kittery.
Ten St. Dom’s players had a hit in a team performance that included six doubles and a triple.
Tim Ouellette earned the pitching win.
WELLS 2, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Keith Ramsey allowed three hits over the final four innings as the Warriors (8-1) downed the Patriots (2-11) in Wells.
Santiago Fitch-Cury pitched the first three innings for Wells, giving up two hits and striking out seven.
Ayden Collins hit an RBI double for Wells, which benefited from seven errors.
YARMOUTH 4, POLAND 0: David Swift and Andrew Cheever combined on a two-hitter as the Clippers (9-2) shut out the Knights (5-7) in a Western Maine Conference game in Yarmouth.
Swift pitched the first six innings before Cheever locked up the win with a scoreless seventh. Liam Hickey tripled for Yarmouth, and Jack Janczuk and Steve Walsh each hit a double.
The Clippers scored two runs in the first inning and two in the second, then were held scoreless over the next five innings by Poland pitcher Adam Gwarjanski.
Drew Sayler and Landon Cooper got Poland’s hits.
SOFTBALL
DIRIGO 10, MOUNTAIN VALLEY 9: The Cougars (5-5) shocked the rival Falcons (2-11) with a four-run bottom of the seventh for a walk-off win in Dixfield.
Emily Woods and Lana Waite each hit two doubles for Dirigo, Grace Robbins had one of her own and Jayce Brophy had a pair of singles. Waite started the game in the circle, pitching one inning, and Robbins finished off the win.
Brooke Brown doubled for Mountain Valley and Mallorie Bourret had two hits. Maisey Chase pitched the whole game for the Falcons.
LEWISTON 6, CAMDEN HILLS 5: Aubrey Peer doubled home Reese Maynard in the bottom of the ninth as the Blue Devils (2-10) edged the Windjammers (3-8) in Lewiston.
Maynard led off the ninth with a triple – her second hit of the game. Peer and Ava Marquis also had two hits for Lewiston. Ava Dionne pitched all nine innings for Lewiston, scattering eight hits while striking out 15.
Dionne and Elissa Nadeau had RBI during a three-run fifth for the Blue Devils that cut the Windjammers’ lead to 5-4.
Maya Stone, Natalie Bolduc and Hannah Leavitt each had two hits for Camden Hills. Sierra Laukka pitched eight-plus innings and gave up 11 hits while striking out four.
MT. ABRAM 12, CARRABEC 2: Abi Wilcox sacrificed in the game-ending run in the bottom of the sixth as the Roadrunners (3-8) finished off a win an inning early against the Cobras (1-10) in Salem Township.
Eva Spear, Sakari Savage and Jany Pepin each hit singles for the only hits for Mt. Abram. Adrianna Stinchfield allowed just two hits in the circle for the Roadrunners.
POLAND 11, YARMOUTH 0: Gretchyn Paradis struck out nine and held the Clippers (4-7) to two hits as the Knights (11-1) won a six-inning game in Yarmouth.
Olivia Rioux paced Poland’s nine-hit attack with a triple, two singles and two RBI. Khloe O’Leary doubled twice and Emma Martin once, Maggie McGlauflin had two hits and two RBI, and Sydney Lacombe singled twice and drove in a run.
Both of Yarmouth’s hits were by Emma Butsch.
SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 10, WINTHROP 9: The Phoenix (10-3) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead, then held off a Ramblers (6-5) rally in the seventh to secure the win in Jay.
Mallory Clark hit a three-run home run during the big sixth-inning. Rylee Turner hit a two-run single in the first and Leah Burgess had a two-run double in the second.
Julia Letourneau hit a bases-clearing double in the third to draw Winthrop within 4-3. The Ramblers then scored one run in the fourth to briefly tie the game before the Phoenix answered with one run in the bottom of the fourth. Two runs each in the fifth and sixth gave the Ramblers an 8-5 lead.
Letourneau also homered for Winthrop, while pitcher Lauryn Wood and catcher Ella Rica were repeat hitters as well.
Jaydn Pingree went 4 for 4 for Spruce Mountain and Burgess had two hits. Turner struck out 11 in six innings and Pingree struck out three to end the game with the tying run at third.
WELLS 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 1: Nikki Aleman and Delani Brown each stole three bases each, and Wells (8-4) totaled nine steals in a five-inning win over the Patriots (2-11) at Wells.
Brown also drove in three runs with a pair of singles.
Maisie Lerette had a triple and a single for Gray-New Gloucester.
BOYS LACROSSE
NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 12, OAK HILL/MONMOUTH/LISBON/ST.DOMINIC 2: Brayden Warde totaled five goals and three assists to lead the Panthers (7-3) past Oak Hill/Monmouth/Lisbon/St. Dom’s (7-4) at Yarmouth.
Zach Leinwand, Seamus Rohde, Wyatt Thomas, Grey Perham, Jonah Donnelly, Nolan Pecora and Gabriel Leclerc were the other NYA goal scorers.
Kaiden Delano scored twice for the Raiders.
