LEWISTON — A 64-year-old man who was struck and killed by a commercial vehicle Friday on Main Street intentionally walked into traffic, police said in a news release.
The man died before police and emergency responders arrived around 2:30 p.m. Investigators determined through witness interviews and nearby surveillance footage that the pedestrian stepped into oncoming traffic of his own accord, Lewiston Police Spokesman Lt. Derrick St. Laurent said.
St. Laurent said his department was not releasing the name of the pedestrian or the driver. He said the driver was “definitely not at fault” and would not face charges.
The Main Street stretch from Bates Street to Park Street was closed to traffic into the evening for crash reconstruction.
