DEAR SUN SPOTS: Being technically challenged, I was unsuccessful in finding Sun Spots archives on the excellent advice people had written in for rules concerning “local news” that cable TV providers offered to rural areas serviced by them. Also, explanations of different services available on services like “fire sticks” and Hulu-equipped TVs, to name a few. Being a senior citizen on a fixed income, it is becoming very challenging to make ends meet. I enjoy the ability of the cable remote I now have to record news and to fast forward or repeat, so recommendations on purchasing a DVR to replace the rented one would be appreciated. Hopefully, others in your reading area would also find the repeat of this information useful. Updated comments would be appreciated also.

However, we did find information on Fire TV Sticks, streaming devices that turn TVs into smart TVs with hundreds of apps for services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime video and Hulu. The Fire Stick is a small plastic rectangle that plugs into the back of TVs that have HDMI ports. The device costs about $50. There are no monthly charges, but you can only stream apps to which you have subscribed. We hope this helps.
