I applaud the city of Portland for its efforts to host asylum seekers at the Expo, and the proposal for the state to fund the housing of the the same asylum seekers at Unity College.

I also applaud Mainers’ compassion for the downtrodden, but they should beware of the mean-spirited GOP governor from Florida, who conveniently forgets that his ancestors came here from Italy in search of a better life and who would be liable to ship more migrants here, for which Mainers might be unfairly obligated to foot the bill.

Some fools do not have a conscience, it seems.
