CHESTERVILLE — A ribbon cutting will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, as part of Chesterville Fun Day.

There is a rain date of 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20.

“Our committee has worked really hard over the past year to make this playground a reality,” Katlin Hilton, playground committee member wrote in a recent email. “We have had a lot of community support and donors to make this happen.”

The new playground is behind the David Archer Town Hall at 409 Dutch Gap Road. A petition signed by 770 residents stating they wanted a playground started the process last summer, Hilton said in March.

With Chesterville children attending different schools depending on where they live, the new playground will be a place for town children to play and get to know one another at an earlier age, Hilton said then. “It will be a nice place for siblings of kids who are playing on the ball field,” she noted.

North Chesterville Extension Homemakers will be serving a chicken barbecue following the ribbon cutting, Hilton said Tuesday, Aug. 8. There will not be a parade this year, she noted.

Chesterville Fun Day is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The recreation committee usually organizes the fun day, we are keeping it very simple this year,” Hilton stated. “The committee was super stretched out with the playground. It took a lot of time.”

The playground was finished a couple of weeks ago, it is open now, Hilton said. A sandbox was added to the original design, a walkway built using crushed stone that is handicapped accessible, she noted.

“We want people to appreciate all the hard work that went into the playground,” Hilton added.
