FARMINGTON — SAVES (Sexual Assault Victims Emergency Services) will kick off its fundraising campaign next week with an evening of wine, food and music in one of Maine’s historic homes. The Holman House located at 227 Main St. in downtown Farmington will be the site for a Fall Wine Tasting Fundraiser from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

The event will feature an assortment of wines hosted by John and Lois Bubier, proprietors of Ron’s Market. The Bubiers will be selecting and presenting red and white wines to accompany food samplings prepared with the assistance of Stan Wheeler and his team. Wheeler is better known locally as “The Simple Gourmet” through his cable television cooking show and website www.TheSimpleGourmet.net. Fine cheeses from local producers will be featured.

Guests will also be treated to a concert of traditional English and Irish folk music presented in lively Celtic tradition. Six accomplished musicians (Donna Campion, Peter Campion, Kathryn Sytsma, John Sytsma, Dan “Tree” Robbins and Elaine Eadler) from the musical troupe “Talisker” will share a varied program of instrumental jigs, solos, ensemble singing and some sing-alongs while encouraging audience involvement through feet stomping, clapping and often impromptu dancing.

“Talisker’s musical talents are guaranteed to raise people’s spirits and we’re so happy to have them perform for our fundraiser,” said Judy Rawlings, Executive Director of SAVES.

The benefit will help support the nonprofit activities and mission of SAVES. Guests will have the opportunity to interact with staff and board members, and those interested may also tour the architecturally appealing and historic Holman House office space of SAVES to learn more about the role of the organization within Franklin County.

Guests aged 21 and over are welcome. All-inclusive admission tickets are available in advance at $20 for a single ticket or $35 for a pair. Tickets at the door will be $20 per person, subject to availability.

Advance tickets can be purchased directly from the SAVES office at the Holman House on the second floor between the hours of 9-5 Monday through Friday. Tickets can also be purchased at the Up Front & Pleasant Gourmet shop at 157 Front St. or at Ron’s Market at 119 High St.
