FARMINGTON — Half the roof on a modular home was ripped off Wednesday when it got snagged by a low-hanging wire while being hauled on Farmington Falls Road.
Geo & Sons Mobile Homes of Benton was headed toward New Sharon when the accident occurred, Farmington Fire Rescue Chief Timothy “TD” Hardy said. The roof hit a low-hanging fiber optic cable, ripping half the roof off, temporarily cutting power to the area and halting traffic about 40 minutes.
The driver of the vehicle was Michael Fernald, 55, of Clinton, Police Chief Kenneth Charles said.
The crash occurred near the Municipal Building.
Central Maine Power Co. lifted the fiber-optic line and Farmington Public Works moved the section of roof and other debris out of the road.
Farmington police handled the accident and firefighters took care of traffic and other chores.
The crash was reported about 3:20 p.m. and the road reopened about 4 p.m.
