I would not be excited about inexperienced people running Central Maine Power, but I am not sure it could be worse than it is now.
My greatest concern is that CMP is owned by a Spanish company. Spain has never been a close friend of the United States, and if the world descends into a division of powers to two sides, I am not sure that country would be on our side.
It has concerned me for a long time that a utility as important to everyday life and the functioning of our state and country should be controlled by a foreign power.
Avangrid, CMP’s parent company, owns $30 billion in assets in 25 states. Imagine a months-long power outage during a global crisis.
