The Cougars’ 44-12 rout of previously unbeaten Sacopee Valley gives them an inside track to a top-3 finish in 8-man Small South. The Rangers are seeking to get untracked after an 0-3 start that has yielded only 12 points so far.

Gardiner (2-1) at Edward Little (0-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Red Eddies have struggled. This might be a good week to turn around their fortunes, though the Tigers are certainly favored.

Bangor (2-1) at Lewiston (1-2)
Friday, 7 p.m.
Each squad enters this matchup with an impressive win (Bangor over Lawrence, Lewiston over South Portland) and some humbling losses. If feels too early to talk about this, but this matchup should have playoff implications.

Camden Hills (3-0) at Mountain Valley (2-1)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Windjammers are the only 8-man Large North team with a perfect record. They’re unbeaten, but they haven’t seemed unbeatable. The Falcons’ 166 points scored is the most in 8-man Large.

Gray-New Gloucester (0-3) at Yarmouth (3-0)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The Patriots, coming off a close loss to Mt. Ararat, are still searching for their first victory of 2023, but the Clippers are looking like the class of 8-man Large this season.

Mt. Blue (0-3) at Skowhegan (0-3)
Friday, 7 p.m.
Barring a tie, one team will get off the schneid this week while the other goes back to the drawing board. The River Hawks, the reigning Class B champions, have yet to score a point this season.

Oak Hill/St. Dom’s (0-3) at Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale/Kents Hill (1-2)

The new turf is finally ready, so the Ramblers finally get to play on their home field. They’re seeking to bounce back from a big loss to Wells against the rival Raiders.

Old Orchard Beach (3-0) at Telstar (1-2)

The Rebels are showing improvement and are coming off their first victory of the season. The Seagulls will be a tough foe, though, having scored 186 points and not yet allowing an opponent to score.

Lisbon (1-2) at York (1-2)
Saturday, 2 p.m.
The Greyhounds face their second consecutive Class C opponent. After this, it’s all Class D foes for last year’s Class D runner-up. York rolled past Wells two weeks ago and then was routed by Leavitt last week.

Oxford Hills (3-0) at Leavitt (3-0)
Saturday, 7 p.m.
Both of these teams have a few games on their 2023 schedules that can be considered the best games in the state this season. But as far as area-vs.-area teams are concerned, there is little chance this one will be surpassed.
