Recently the Bangor Daily News ran an article on the mayoral race in Auburn, describing Jason Levesque’s “hard-charging, pro-development” agenda and his belief that his “skill set” is better suited for the Blaine House.

Logic doesn’t appear to be part of that skill set. “The more people you have, the more problems you can fix,” he said about his goal to see Maine’s population grow past 2 million. That’s like his glib response at a community forum to complaints about traffic coming from the west on Court Street: if Auburn builds more housing, people from Minot will move to Auburn — problem solved.

Levesque’s developer buddy Jessica Klimek told the BDN that any opposition to development comes from a group of older residents who “just don’t want change.”

Let’s add demographics to the mayor’s skill set: Auburn, like the rest of Maine, is full of older people, and they vote.
