Minot is a multi-generational community filled with hardworking families and elders, who have called this town home for decades.
At the heart of it all is our school, Minot Consolidated School.
Residents, their children and grandchildren — my children included — are Minot Mustangs. Many families have moved into Minot because of MCS and its National Blue Ribbon Award status.
Our school, the only year-round heated facility that can hold community events in town, hosts Minot’s town meeting, the first Saturday in March, as well as other community events throughout the year.
Many hearts are warmed walking the brightly lit hallways, greeted by familiar smiling faces of staff with whom many have grown up.
Our school is being considered one for closure, as a cost savings measure. It is a decision not being taken lightly.
Removing Minot Consolidated School from our community would not only remove the staple of our community, it would impact our community in other ways.
Financially our residents would have property values negatively effected due to no school presence in town by drawing less families into town. Families would be driven away in turn, further negatively impacting tax levels for all residents.
Closure of our school would be taking away vested careers of educators and individuals that are families in and of our community.
We have the financial and physical ability as a district to fix and maintain these schools that we call home.
We as a community have Mustang Pride.
