100 years Ago: 1923
The season’s first EL high school sorority dancing party will be held Friday evening at Mrs. Heth’s Academy, Lisbon St., Lewiston. Kappa Theta Sigma girls entertaining. Several successful parties were given by the popular club last season. Dance orders have been in the process of being exchanged now for several days, invitations have been issued by the young ladies who at this time are entertaining the gentlemen. Marbles Orchestra will furnish music.
50 Years Ago: 1973
Descendants of the Mayflower Society sat down to a Thanksgiving dinner with Indians here in Bangor hoping to return the friendship handed to their ancestors years ago. We felt that if we extended a hand of friendship and they accepted it we would have done something good, said Virginia Adamson, historian of the Maine Society.
The society wanted to reverse a recent trend, said Mrs. Adamson. Indians have demonstrated the last 2 or 3 years in Plymouth and then there was Wounded Knee. But if it hadn’t been for the Indians the Pilgrims would have died. One half of the colony died that first year anyway.
25 Years Ago: 1998
WCSH News Center is set to premiere Dec. 14. The announcement was made by Vice President and General manager Steve Thaxton. Pat Callaghan, Cindy Williams and Joe Cupo will host the new show. The newscast will offer more in-depth news with a limited number of commercial breaks. The goal of News Center 6 at 5pm is to provide the most relevant information of any 5 pm newscast.
