DEAR SUN SPOTS: A while ago (Nov. 3 Sun Spots) there was a request for someone to do alterations and we have a name to add to your Rolodex. We’ve had The Mill End Store at 971 Main St. in Oxford (539-4451) do many projects for us, from mending, zippers, hemming, and even repairing our boat top. DEAR SUN SPOTS: This is my third try at giving away greeting cards. I have Christmas cards, birthday cards and others. They are the ones you get from places asking for donations and all come with envelopes. I have hundreds of them.
The cards would be great for nursing homes or veterans’ homes; that way the people wouldn’t have to buy cards to send to loved ones. I would hate to throw them in the trash.

ANSWER: You’re on the right track but my thought is that you may have to be proactive and call a few activities directors at area facilities as you mentioned above, rather than wait for them to call you. Folks who are employed in these places have a lot on their plates, especially these days in the era of short staffing. It would be great if you reached out and followed up by taking the cards to them.
The SHAREcenter at 1830 Lisbon St. in Lewiston (333-6671), which I’ve mentioned many times in this column, will also take them.
I’m also adding a list of items The SHAREcenter needs now in hopes that Sun Spotters will feel led to help this fantastic organization. The requests for basic hygiene items for area students have increased significantly over the past year.
The SHAREcenter will be open Tuesday, Nov. 28, and Wednesday, Nov. 29, from 2-5 p.m. for easy drop-off. Giving just one or two items would be extremely helpful.
This list includes hair ties, hairpins, brushes, combs, dry shampoo, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, deodorant (men’s and women’s, both spray and solid), face wipes, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, individual packs of tissues, sweatshirts, joggers (sizes S through XXXL), umbrellas, reusable water bottles, manicure kits, wireless headphones, lightning charging cables, journals, and colored pens.
