NORWAY — On Nov. 22, patrol and Special Enforcement Unit officers from the Norway Police Department, accompanied by the Paris Police Department’s K9 team, went to an apartment located at 247 Main St in Norway, in an attempt to locate two suspects with active arrest warrants, according to Norway Police Chief Jeff Campbell.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with several individuals who attempted to flee the residence, said Campbell, before going back inside and beginning to dispose of what officers believed to be illegal narcotics.
Due to exigent circumstances and other contributing factors, officers made entry into the apartment in an attempt to prevent the destruction of evidence, described Campbell. While officers attempted to detain several uncooperative suspects, one of the wanted individuals – David Anderson – fled the scene on foot. He was located a short time later with the assistance of the Paris Police K9 team and a passing motorist.
During a subsequent search warrant search of the apartment, officers located a large quantity of illegal prescription drugs, along with currency, drug packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and a handgun. This investigation is ongoing, Campbell continued.
“The Norway Police Department would like to extend its gratitude and thanks to the unknown motorist who stopped and assisted officers in locating Anderson after his brief escape,” said Campbell.
The following arrests were made as a result of this investigation:
Kalar Abdi – Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and Violating Conditions of Release
Abdul Ali – Unsworn Fasciation (false name) and Violating Conditions of Release
David Anderson – Arrest Warrant, Escape and Violating Conditions of Release
Jessica Edwards – Obstructing Government Administration
Richard Hodge – Arrest Warrant
