WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
CMCC 60, SMCC 57: Rosa Prieto secured the rivalry victory for the Mustangs (11-1, 5-0 YSCC) with a layup with 41 seconds remaining in the game to defeat the SeaWolves (8-2, 2-2 YSCC) on the campus of Central Maine Community College in Auburn.
Prieto finished with 10 points in the game.
Molly Corbett of CMCC hit one of her two free throws with 13 seconds remaining to add insurance.
Destiny Mora Lopez was a big factor for Central Maine in the fourth quarter, during which she scored 11 of her team-high 21 points in the period. Lopez and Prieto were the only two Mustangs in double digits.
Maddy York tallied 17 points for Southern Maine and Macey Brown had 12 points, including two free throws to cut the deficit to 59-57.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
SMCC 69, CMCC 62: Adam Savage’s near double-double led the SeaWolves (8-4, 3-2 YSCC) past the Mustangs (5-8, 1-5 YSCC) in Auburn.
Savage scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Luke Briggs added 17 points, Thomas Martinotti had 15 and Cayman Warburton finished with 12 for Southern Maine Community College. Former area standouts Charlie Houghton of Dirigo and Cole Pulkkinen of Oxford Hills, contributed three and two points, respectively. Houghton also had four rebounds and two assists, and Pulkkinen had two boards.
Boston Caldwell was Central Maine CC’s top scorer with 16 points. Wyatt Hathaway and Jackson Birmingham each scored 11 and Cam Pollock added 10. Birmingham also had eight assists and six rebounds, and Jeremiah Simeon grabbed a team-best eight boards.
