Hello to all you fine folks.  I was sitting here taking a small walk down memory lane. This is what old folks do every once in a while. It takes up some time and gives me an excuse for not getting stuff done. I am not sure if having a good memory is a curse or a talent. I can bring to light things as far back as 1949. There are a few things before that, but the date fails to come to light. The time that I was just crawling around on the floor. I was told I drank some kerosene and almost died. I had quite a bout of pneumonia after that. I have a burn scar on my left arm. It is quite a long scar and has almost disappeared. I can remember the stove in the house, but not the event. I was just beginning to walk around. I fell against the stove and burned my arm. I cannot remember this because I have chosen not to remember. If I was so inclined, I could sit here and conjure up many bad memories. But I chose not to go down that particular memory lane. I have made the choice to bring forward as many pleasant memories as possible. People do indeed have that choice. Those bad times, we must not forget them. They are a life altering lesson for the most part. There is no need, however, to keep them in the active memory file.  The choice is yours and the choice is mine. To sit and wallow in those bad memories is sort of a self-defeating time. It takes away the power and strength of enjoying life. It only ends up making us a bitter person.  By making the choice to concentrate on those beautiful moments, I can sit here and smile. You may think me a tad off kilter if you should peer into my windows. A grey-haired country boy sitting in his chair, just a smiling.  There were times indeed, folks thought I was up to mischief with a smile such as that. It is just reliving a beautiful, pleasant memory. There are some folks out there in the world a bit afraid I will bring them sorrow. That would force me to walk down a street I no longer want to visit. We should all remember those times, but not dwell in sorrow. Life is so beautiful if we choose to enjoy the pleasant side things. I have made that choice because I know not when this journey will end. I will admit I can be quite a cantankerous type of fella. This is a choice you force me to make. People do indeed have the ability to bring pleasant times. They can also bring doom and gloom along with them. The world is getting filled with people whose only purpose is to diminish the honors from the last generation. We have seen too many of those disappear. Mainly because some folks chose to destroy a pleasant memory. Bad stuff does Indeed happen to good people, but there is no need to help foster bad memories.
A new year is fast approaching us. Why don’t we make the choice to create pleasant memories for each other. A small act of kindness could change someone’s outlook for the day, week, or even the month. You may have just created the best memory of the year for them.  The choice IS YOURS. Peace to you all and put on the cloak of kindness to others.    Ken White  mountainman.
