Preschool story time

RUMFORD — The Rumford Public Library’s weekly preschool story time for children ages 2-5 is held at 10 a.m. Wednesdays. Children will enjoy stories, songs and finger plays, as well as make crafts that reflect the story time theme.

This is an excellent opportunity for parents to have their children meet and interact with other preschoolers. Story time will not be held during RSU 10 school vacations or in the event of school cancellations.

Parish social

MEXICO — Members of the parish of the Mexico Congregational Church, UCC, will have a social evening on Saturday, Oct. 1, with appetizers being served from 4 to 5 p.m. There will be an opportunity for the members to meet and greet Izzie Radford-Nash, candidate for the position of minister of the church. The evening will continue with a pot luck supper at 6 p.m. in the dining room. Those attending are asked to bring a hot dish or salad to share.

Radford-Nash will conduct the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Oct. 2, assisted by the interim minister, Connie Insley, in administering Holy Communion. Following the service, a meeting of the church and parish will be held to consider issuing a formal call to the candidate to serve as the settled pastor.

Ticket auction

NORWAY — Second Congregational Church will hold its annual Ticket Auction on Saturday, Oct. 1. Doors will open at 3 p.m. and the drawing will begin at 5 p.m.

There will be something for everyone including games, decorations, sewing supplies, household goods, food items and baked goods. Items are beautifully presented for holiday gift giving, thanks to Joanna Allen-Timberlake and Beth Allen. There will also be higher-end items available for $1 per ticket.

The snack bar will be selling hot dogs, chips, cookies, brownies and beverages. Proceeds help with the many missions of Women’s Fellowship Group. Everyone is welcome to attend worship service and Sunday school at 10 a.m. Child care is provided for infants and toddlers.

Mahoosuc hike

SHELBURNE, N.H. — Mahoosuc Land Trust will host a hike of First Mountain beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1. The moderately strenuous loop hike covers about four miles up and over First Mountain and onto Middle Mountain, featuring views of the Presidentials, Evans Notch and the Mahoosucs. Walking poles are recommended. Participants should bring water, snacks and lunch. Refreshments will follow at First Mountain House.

Flu shots

CARTHAGE — Flu shots will be available from the Healthy Community Coalition of Greater Franklin County at Carthage Town Office, from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.

Due to the cost of the vaccine, there is a suggested donation of $20 at Healthy Community Coalition clinics (or by donating what you can afford). Insurance, Medicare or Medicaid cannot be accepted. The Healthy Community Coalition purchases all vaccine used and appreciates donations to help cover costs.

Flu shots will be provided to those individuals 18 years old and older. Those who are under 18 are recommended to see their primary care medical provider.
