A party of Auburn men will leave today for camp Upper Enchanted at the Fox where they will spend ten days hunting big game. The party will include Charles Hancock, John Carter, Mr. O’Brien, Fred Briggs and George Seavey all of Auburn. Next Friday Avery Maines will leave to join the party.

50 years ago, 1961

Auburn police received a report yesterday afternoon on the identity of the prowler reported in the Turner Street area and now feel that the case is closed. From information received by authorities, the prowler is not a prowler in the true sense of the word, but an individual recovering after a nervous breakdown.

25 years ago, 1986

GREENE — Selectman Kenneth Fogg announced Monday night that the Board of Selectmen met with selectmen from Leeds and Turner to discuss sharing a tax assessor with the other two towns.

The three boards will schedule a meeting with the current assessor from Leeds to further discuss the matter. Officials are considering whether they can save money by sharing one assessor among the three towns.
