POLAND — Junior fullback Tyler Sturtevant scored three touchdowns and two rushing extra points to lead Poland to an impressive 34-30 victory over Winslow in Class C football action Friday evening.
The Knights (4-4) scored a pair of touchdowns in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. Sturtevant found the end zone in each of the following three quarters, picking up 131 yards rushing along the way.
Winslow freshman tailback Dylan Hapworth responded to a Poland 26-6 lead midway through the third quarter with a touchdown and two-point after rush. Hapworth scored again in the fourth quarter as the Black Raiders (6-2) posted two late touchdowns in a failed attempt to come back from a 20-point deficit as time ran out.
Gray-NG 26, Lake Region 12
GRAY — Junior Josh Greenleaf and senior Jon Greenleaf provided big scoring runs to lead Gray-New Gloucester to its first victory of the season, a 26-12 win over Lake Region in a Western Class B football game Friday night.
Jamie Anderson put the Lakers (0-8) on the board first with a 3-yard run in the first quarter. But, the Patriots (1-7) scored two consecutive touchdowns before the midpoint.
With the game tied 6-6, Josh Greenleaf broke out for a 65-yard touchdown, and Josh Bagdon notched the point after to give the Patriots a 13-6 halftime lead.
Jon Greenleaf scored the second of two Patriots’ touchdowns in the third quarter with a 55-yard run. And, Jacob Anderson responded with a 1-yard tally for the Lakers to complete the scoring.

NYA 5, Mt. Abram 0
SALEM — Seniors Ben Randall and Ryan Rousseau scored a pair of goals each as No. 9 North Yarmouth Academy notched a 5-0 victory over No. 8 Mt. Abram in the Western Class C prelims Friday.
The Panthers (7-6-2) had a flurry of five goals during a 10-minute span in the second half.
Goalie Josh Beedy made 12 saves for the Roadrunners (6-6-3), while goalie Ryan Salerno prevented six for the shutout for North Yarmouth Academy.
Girls’ soccer
Monmouth 1, Mt. Abram 0
SALEM — Kylie Kemp raced down the right side of the field, slipped past a pair of defenders and lofted the game-winning goal over the netminder’s head, giving Monmouth Academy a 1-0 victory over Mt. Abram in a Class C girls’ soccer preliminary game Friday.
Kemp’s unassisted goal game with 24:59 left in the game. From there, the No. 9 Mustangs (8-7-0) held off No. 8 Mt. Abram’s (7-7-1) attempts to score.
The game was tight as both teams had eight shots apiece and were tied at 3-3 in corners.
Winning goalie Adriana Gonzalez made four saves.
Freeport 3, Poland 1
FREEPORT — Goals by Macy Stowell, Aubrey Pennell and Naomi Otis lifted Freeport to a 3-1 triumph over Poland in a Western Class B preliminary-round girls’ soccer game Friday.
After Stowell scored the only goal of the first half. Freeport (8-7) took charge by scoring the next two goals for a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Poland averted the shutout when Emily Bolduc scored with an assist by Emma Turton.
Haley Whitworth made six saves for Poland (5-10), while Abby Roney was credited with nine saves for Freeport.
