RUMFORD — A benefit is planned Saturday to help raise funds for a family of six left homeless after a fire destroyed their house in Mexico.

Nelson and Courtney Bisson and their four children lost everything in a fire that started Nov. 1 at 300 River Road. The couple and their six-year-old daughter escaped just minutes before the flames consumed their home.

The family is trying to find funds to pay for the cost of removing the debris from the fire. The home was not insured.

Cindy Billings, owner of Simply Sweet Market and Bakery, which is across the street from the Bissons’ home, has been helping the family with donations.

Tickets for the benefit are available at the bakery at 297 River Road and are priced at $15 for adults and $8 for children under 12. The event will be held at the Rumford American Legion.

The benefit is from 5 p.m. to midnight Nov. 26 and will include a spaghetti dinner and a dance.

There is limited seating and only 200 tickets will be sold. A Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle will also take place.
