Bringing attention to the economic benefits of the Maine Power Reliability Program (“Massive project has given Maine’s economy a boost, Dec. 20) was spot on. Informing readers of the benefits of a project is equally important as covering opposition concerns.
Would that President Barack Obama likewise comes to his senses and approve the construction of the Keystone pipeline project from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.
As with Central Maine Power’s project, the “shovel-ready” Keystone project offers the economic benefits of over 20,000 well-paying manufacturing jobs and an injection of approximately 7 billion private dollars that will provide a tremendous boost to our ailing economy and economic security.
Yet, President Obama and his minions, including our representatives, continue to steadfastly oppose the project, seemingly in order to placate environmentalists while ignoring the plight of the jobless and our need for energy independence.
I hope that come next November’s election Maine voters, especially union members, hold President Obama and his supporters accountable for pursuing at all costs a strategy to create a socialist, big-government and fossil-fuel-free utopia which has proven to be so disastrous to our national well-being.
