SABATTUS — The Retired Athletes, a basketball team representing the clerks of this place, attempted to come back, when they played Sabattus High School. They succeeded in putting up a fast and rough game, but were defeated by the score of 8 to 4. M. Phelan was the only man that could get more than one floor goal. Maxwell was obliged to leave the game on account of a broken tooth.

It will be “Old Timer’s Night” at the PAL Summer Street skating rink in Lewiston this Saturday night, Director Joseph Berube announced Tuesday.
Berube said adults will have an opportunity to do some skating between the hours of 7 and 10 p.m. and, if they wish, may bring along their youngsters to join in the fun. It’s all free of charge, he pointed out.

With the Fire Department responding to about 200 false alarms a year, Auburn city councilors on Monday will be asked to approve a new policy that would charge for false alarms in certain categories, such as human error or faulty equipment.
The council took the first step toward eliminating false alarms last fall by voting to take down the city’s 69 fire-alarm street boxes, which were said to be the targets of pranksters more than relayers of legitimate emergencies.
