RANGELEY — Due to a generous donations of time, talent and discounted materials, the Rangeley Lakes Region Logging Museum got a full set of long-overdue lights inside and out this past summer. When the museum building was constructed in 1990 it was never completed in terms of electrical outlets and lighting.
After 20 years RLRLM’s board finally earmarked some funds to start this major project. But it was an expensive and large undertaking so it wasn’t until receiving major assistance from IEC Electrical in 2010 that the project was accomplished.
The first job of wiring up the inside on all three levels of the museum was done in October 2010 as a contribution from Mike Carleton, owner of IEC, and his crew. A few follow-up sessions with RLRLM volunteers under the leadership of Wes Dugan of Rangeley Electric got more details completed by early May 2011.
Carleton, and his wife Bonnie, installed the track lighting. Carleton and crew returned for the final session to hang the very special interior lighting that added that special touch of class to the museum. All work was completed by early June so the museum was ready for the 2011 summer season.
Later in the summer, with the help of museum volunteers and the expertise of Dugan, the outside automatic lighting and receptacles were installed. The entrance is now lit, as well as the two Mad Whittler (Rodney Richard) bears standing guard and the museum’s roadside sign (in memory of Lawrence Haines).
Museum volunteers who pulled more than their weight in electrical wires, hooked up circuits, drilled holes and more, included Tom Sullivan, Danny Robinson, Bruce Johnson, Homer Everhard, Ken Astor, Gerry Adams and Reinhard Anklam.
