EUSTIS — Some birds perished in an early morning fire that destroyed a garage and its contents early Thursday, fire Chief Rusty Fearon said.
He did not know how many birds were in the garage, he said.
Eight firefighters and three trucks from Eustis and Carrabassett Valley responded to the fire reported at about 5:45 a.m. on Old Dead River Road.
Firefighters were able to keep the fire away from a house that was 20 feet away, he said.
The garage was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, Fearon said.
Firefighters are conducting an investigation to try and determine the cause, he said.
No people were injured in the fire.
The two-bay garage had a lot of belongings in it but no vehicles, he said.
June Hovey, the owner of the property, wasn’t living at the house but some family members were, Fearon said.
The garage is insured, he said.
