Firefighters from several towns battled a house fire at 21 Larrabee Lane in Durham early Friday afternoon. A dog and two cats perished in the smoky blaze at the home of Martin and Connie Jacques. Durham Fire Department Public Information Officer Michael Brillant said Jacques had gone to the store at about 12:30 p.m. and when he returned fire was seen through the kitchen window. Firefighters had the blaze under control in about 45 minutes, Brillant said. State Fire Marshal’s Office investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen but the cause was undetermined. Firefighters said there was extensive damage to the kitchen and smoke and heat damage to the rest of the house. The 1½ story home was insured, Brilliant said. Lisbon Falls and Freeport assisted at the scene.
