ANDOVER — Selectmen have set an emergency meeting for 3 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at the Town Office to approve a check for $68,000 to try to keep the elementary school open.
The action is the result of residents voting 210-97 Tuesday to raise the money.
SAD 44 Superintendent David Murphy said earlier that representatives from the town are expected to make their proposal at the School Board’s meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Telstar Middle/High School library in Bethel.
Last year, the board voted to close the facility for school year 2011-12 to save money. However, Andover residents agreed to raise $214,000 to keep it open.
Selectmen have said the $68,000 will cover the costs of the building’s utilities and pay for the principal.
The school has an enrollment of about 35 students from kindergarten to grade 5.
Fundraising activities have been held to pay for keeping the school open.
