TOPSHAM — A Lewiston Road house burned Thursday afternoon and a section of Route 196 was closed as fire crews battled the flames.
The two-story house was reported on fire at about 2 p.m. An hour later, fire crews said the blaze was under control.
The house sits alone on a hill near the Topsham-Lisbon line.
There were no reports of injuries. Firefighters remained at the scene into Thursday night, snuffing out hot spots and searching for a cause.
Half of the home was gutted, burned down to charred beams, but fire crews were able to save the rest of the building.
