100 years ago, 1912
The Lewiston Teachers’ Association laid aside its dignity for awhile, Thursday evening, and entered with zest into the contests and general merriment of a patriotic social, held at Dingley School hall, Oak Street. Each teacher could invite one friend and about 100 were present. The hall had been tastefully decorated by the teachers with red, white and blue bunting and numerous flags in honor of Patriot’s Day. The evening’s entertainment, which was not too frivolous but with enough fun to lighten the general literary character, was in charge of Miss Annnabelle Bucknam and there was not a dull moment.

50 years ago, 1962
 Two of the greatest players ever produced in New England have informed the Red Sox that they will be on hand to join with their 1912 teammates at Fenway Park, Saturday, to take part in the golden anniversary celebration of the famous Home of the Red Sox.” Bill Carrigan of Lewiston, who was an outstanding catcher on the 1912 World Championship Red Sox team and managed the Red Sox to two other World Championships in 1915 and 1916 will drive in from his home in Maine for the celebration. Also, pitcher Ray Collins of Colchester, Vt., who had a 14-8 record in 1912 has sent word that he is looking forward to the event.

25 years ago, 1987
Easter Sunday accounted for a 7,200 crowd for yesterday’s opening program at Oxford Plains Motor Speedway. Which began the new season under new management this spring. Perfect weather and a Winston Series program brought out a field of 50 Street Stockers, who raced in two divisions, and well-filled fields for the Late Models, Chargers and Figure Eights.
