LIVERMORE FALLS — Veterans Hill will rise again.
Members of the American Legion Post 10 in Livermore Falls are organizing a display of flags to honor and remember veterans the week of May 25 to June 1.
Regional School Unit 73 has given Legion members permission for the 12- by 18-inch flags to be placed on the hill in front of its Central Office on Cedar Street, just off Park Street.
The first display was done last year and featured about 300 flags.
The plan is for people to buy an American flag through Post 10, and Legion members will place them on the hill to commemorate Veterans Hill 2012. The flags cost $5, Post 10 Adjutant Don Simoneau said, and will be erected at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24.
The American Legion in Livermore Falls welcomes people to honor and remember a veteran by placing a flag. They may send a check to George Bunten Post 10, 17 Reynolds Ave., Livermore Falls, ME 04254. In the note area of the check or a note attached to the check, please indicate “In Honor of (name)” or “In Memory of (name).”
After the week of display, the flags will be available from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at Post 10, if the person or organization would like to retain the flags for a keepsake.
