BETHEL — The Bethel Historical Society will host its annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show, which features the work of students in grades one through six in SAD 44. The show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26.
This year’s student art will be exhibited in the Molly Ockett Room of the Society’s Robinson House, 10 Broad St. The theme is “The Woods and Lakes Around Us,” a subject that will be further explored in the society’s upcoming exhibit, “They Took to the Woods,” about the history of outdoor recreation in western Maine.
Art show guidelines have been made available to students. Artwork should be delivered to the Robinson House by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 25, in order to be considered for a prize. On Saturday morning, several judges will look at all entries to determine how they relate to this year’s theme and to choose the winners. Ribbons, certificates and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in three divisions.
This art show honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor (1908–1972), a local landscape painter who was very interested in encouraging the creative talents of young people. Questions about the contest should be directed to 824-2908 or info@bethelhistorical.org.
