PERU — Road Commissioner Joe Roach told selectmen Monday night there was little damage to roads from weekend rains.

“That’s the beauty of preventative maintenance,” he said.

Roach said he would check culverts and ditches to make sure they were not clogged.

Board Chairman Tim Holland asked Roach how the weekend storm compared to Tropical Storm Irene last August.

Roach said that with Irene, many inches of rain fell in hours, compared to the entire weekend of rain.

Building permits were signed for Tadd Woods for stairs to water, Peter Bolduc for a deck, Warren Packard for a deck and James Poirier for a deck.

The contract for the town audit was awarded to Keel Hood CPA of Fairfield for $25,000.

Selectmen will continue to monitor cleanup of properties on Dickvale and Oxford roads. Letters had been sent requiring the property to be cleaned up by June 4. Some progress has been made, but more is needed, the board said.

Selectmen will meet with the Planning Board on Tuesday night to consider an application for a junkyard at the old Diamond Mill.
