WILTON — More street lights may be turned off if voters this month approve a budget of less than $30,000.

Selectmen on Tuesday night reviewed a plan to shut off 13 more street lights. Orange tape will soon mark the light poles, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said.

Last year, voters decided to shut off almost 100 street lights, almost a third of the town’s lights, to save money.

Residents may contact Central Maine Power and pay for a street light to remain on, as some did last year, she said.

One street light is estimated to cost the town in the range of $150 per year. Keeping the 13 lights on would bring the amount budgeted to more than $30,000 and selectmen knew people wanted to bring it down to $30,000 last year, she said.

“A few years ago more than $51,000 was budgeted for street lights, so this has made an impact on reducing the budget,” she said.

Voters will decide on the budget at the annual town meeting June 18. The street light amount within the town report states: “approximately ten street lights are projected to be eliminated with this proposed budget,” she said.

The sum of $29,700 is budgeted for street lights. It does not include the $3,500 for downtown lights and $500 for traffic lights at Main and Depot streets, she said.

The 13 lights proposed to be shut off include:

* U.S. Route 2 West, pole 8, located up the hill from the intersection of Route 2 and Main Street heading west.

* One at Preston Street and U.S. Route 2.

* End of Holmes Street and U.S. Route 2 (pole is on Holmes but light is turned to Route 2).
