LIVERMORE FALLS — Voters in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls on Tuesday rejected a proposed $18.8 million Regional School Unit 73 budget by a combined tally of 642-734.
The proposal for 2012-13 failed in all three towns: Jay residents voted 328-341; Livermore voters, 196-253; and Livermore Falls, 118-140.
The failed budget reflects a $410,527 increase from this year’s spending plan.
State law allows the district to operate on the $18.8 million budget that was approved by voters June 5 until a budget is approved through the yes or no validation process, Superintendent Robert Wall said Wednesday. School budgets must be presented and voted on at town-hall-style meetings and again through referendum.
RSU 73 directors will discuss the next step in the budget process at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 14, at the Cedar Street Boardroom in Livermore Falls.
