WILTON — An intruder forced their way into a residence on Pond Road, off Route 2, Monday and made off with jewelry, police Chief Heidi Wilcox said Tuesday.

A resident of the home was sleeping upstairs and when he woke and came downstairs he noticed that the house had been entered, she said. He noticed that the bedroom was disheveled, she said, and reported the burglary to police at about 1 p.m.

The family is still taking inventory to determine if anything else is missing, Wilcox said.

There have been several daytime burglaries in Franklin County since June 7.

On June 11, police believe children arriving home from school interrupted a burglary on East Jay Road in Jay. Entry into the residence was gained by force. It is believed to have occurred at about 2:30 p.m. Jewelry, a laptop, a Nintendo Wii and a Nook were taken.

On June 7, two daytime burglaries were reported in Farmington and Wilton. About $50 in change was taken in a burglary on Orchard Drive in Wilton. About $2,000 in cash and jewelry were stolen from a Whittier Road in Farmington.
