WATERVILLE — Oscar-winning film editor Thelma Schoonmaker is the winner of this year’s Maine International Film Festival’s Mid-Life Achievement Award.

Schoonmaker will receive her award on July 17 in Waterville at a screening of “Goodfellas,” one of more than two dozen films she’s worked on.

Schoonmaker is best-known for editing the films of director Martin Scorcese, with whom she has worked for more than 40 years.

She has received seven Academy Award nominations for best editing. She’s won three times, for “Raging Bull,” ”The Aviator” and “The Departed.”

The festival runs from July 13-22 in Waterville. Besides showing nearly 100 independent films, the festival provides opportunities for audiences to meet and talk with directors, producers, writers and other people behind the movies.
