It is time to move on.
All three branches of government — the legislative, the executive and now the judicial — have declared that the Affordable Care Act is the law of the land.
We have the most expensive health care system in the world, with the worst results. We have a lower life expectancy, higher infant mortality rates, are the most overweight and spend three times as much as any other nation in the world.
And private health insurance providers not only rake in huge profits, but have quadruple the administrative costs of Medicare, all at the cost of providing actual medical care.
Not only are medical expenses the number one reason for bankruptcy, fully 75 percent of those filing for bankruptcy already have health insurance but reach the limit of their coverage or get dropped because of their illnesses.
It is amazing how the propaganda machine of the naysayers will outright lie to achieve their ends. Their claim that this is the highest tax ever enacted is a blatant falsehood. The reality is that only those who can afford health insurance and refuse to purchase it will be assessed a penalty which, by all estimates, will affect approximately 1 percent of the population. Even then, there is no way to enforce that penalty other than withholding an income tax refund.
It is an absolute shame that the richest country in the world denies its citizens the fundamental right of access to basic medical care.
