BETHEL — “Celebrating Our 62nd Class Reunion and 80th Birthdays” is the theme of the Stephens High School, Class of 1950, class reunion to be held on Saturday, July 28, at the Roosters Roadhouse, beginning at 11 a.m.
At their 60th reunion the class voted to combine their 62nd reunion with a celebration of their 80th birthdays.
Thanks to past donations from several generous classmates, all members attending the reunion will receive a gift of a T-shirt in school colors bearing the special class logo. In addition, a champagne toast before the luncheon will add to the celebration along with carafes of wine on tables. Richard Austin and Bernard Poirier, co-chairs, said that 26 classmates and 11 guests are expected to attend.
Registration for the reunion will take place in the flower garden, just outside the main entrance to the restaurant, hosted by committee members Margaret Deane, Frances Miller, Noella Taylor, Margaret Martineau and Sylvia Harrington. The 2012 Souvenir booklet and T-shirts will be given to members at this time.
Members and guests will enjoy a social gathering from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the private dining room, which will be decorated in school colors and 80th birthday decor. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available, as well as courtesy refreshments of lemonade, iced tea, tea and coffee. Members may browse though several scrapbooks of photos taken at past reunions.
A 50/50 raffle will be held to help fund expenses for the next reunion.
The luncheon will be served from 1 to 2 p.m., following the celebration champagne toast. Members have a choice of three entrees, which includes fresh baked stuffed Maine haddock, Yankee pot roast or homemade chicken pot pie. A large reunion and birthday cake made and decorated by the restaurant will be served with ice cream for dessert.
A class photo will be taken by a professional photographer on the grounds of the restaurant. Copies will be available to classmates for a small fee.
High on the agenda for the business meeting, which will take place from 2:15 to 3 p.m. are plans for the next reunion, the 65th, to be held in 2015.
Committee members have been holding class luncheon meetings on the third Monday of the month and have been discussing plans for the reunion since the first of the year. Meetings are held at various restaurants in town and open to any classmates interested.
