BRYANT POND — Fred B. Jordan, M.D., deputy chief medical examiner for the state of Maine, will be the guest speaker at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13. There is no charge for the program.
In today’s world it seems that we are all too frequently bombarded with reports of some type of domestic or foreign terrorism and its consequences. These events are complex, heartbreaking, frightening and produce long lasting consequences.
Jordan, using the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City as a model that is still used in disaster management today, will look at the acute and long lasting logistical investigative, and humanitarian challenges that resulted. Jordan was chief medical examiner for the state of Oklahoma at the time of the bombing.
Although he has moved back to Maine and a more bucolic environment, the terrorists who bore much responsibility for the destruction of the World Trade Center entered Maine and flew directly from the Portland International Jetport to their tragic destination.
Dr. Jordan has had extensive contact both with the fatally injured and surviving victims of the Murrah Building. Hopefully in some small way the presentation will honor their memory and serve to make us more aware of the importance of planning and vigilance to keep us safe.
