I am writing to respond to a short accusatory letter from Norman Mitchell in Dixfield published Sept. 10.
Mitchell accuses our company of impugning “the character and education of concerned citizens,” which is not true. We do respond to attacks on our company, as I am doing now, but we do not attack people’s character, including Mitchell’s.
His letter compares the sound of Jet Skis with the sound of wind turbines, and suggests that wind power supporters, including the former governor, are biased because they do not like Jet Skis but they do support wind power. Since Jet Skis sound 30 times louder than wind turbines, that comparison is misleading.
Mitchell also suggests that we failed to disclose that turbines would be placed along the ridge rather than just on the peak of Col. Holman Mountain. On the contrary, from our first public informational meeting (in October 2010), we described and showed simulations of a project that would extend along the ridge. We would request that Mitchell check with town government, or with us, or with anyone else who has been involved in the project for clarification before accusing us of lying.
It is clear that Mitchell is not in favor of wind power. However, his negative and misleading letter is reminiscent of everything that people dislike about mud-slinging political campaigns.
We have been open and forthcoming with our thinking about this project, and we would ask the same of Mr. Mitchell.
