FRYEBURG — The Fryeburg Fair is set to begin Sunday and run through next weekend.

Maine’s largest agricultural fair begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, but fair spokeswoman Rachel Andrews Damon said the fairgrounds are already filling up.

“People are flooding in here like crazy,” Damon said Friday. She said campers were setting up as it began to rain Friday morning.

This year the fair has added a specialty foods pavilion, a new building where vendors from Maine and New Hampshire will showcase locally made gourmet chocolate, olive oil, barbecue sauces, gourmet popcorn, jams, jellies and coffee.

“The plan is to showcase local agriculture,” Damon said.

There will be nighttime performances Monday through Saturday. Performers include the Jonathan Sarty Band on Monday, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band on Tuesday, Asleep at the Wheel on Wednesday, Jo Dee Messina on Thursday, Craig Campbell on Friday and Lexi James on Saturday.

With the fair’s following, including more than 22,000 fans on Facebook, Damon said the fair is expecting big crowds as in previous years.

Showers are scheduled for Sunday and Monday, which Damon said might keep some away. “The weather is always a small issue for some people, but the hearty people who can tolerate the rain and a little bit of cold will be out here in droves.”

Exhibition halls will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. General admission is $10, which includes the night shows, which begin at 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Children under age 12 can attend for free each day. Senior Citizens Day, for those 65 and older, is Tuesday. Admission on that day is free for seniors.
