WOODSTOCK — Firefighters are preparing the second annual Parade of Lights on Saturday evening to raise awareness of fire prevention.

Fire Chief Geff Inman said dozens of local fire departments from across Oxford County and as far as away as Berlin, N.H., have been invited to participate in the parade, which will start at 7 p.m. Saturday. It will go from the ball fields to the fire station.

Last year, he said, there were nearly 30 trucks from 14 departments.

Capt. Ken Ruff of the Fire Department said the Greenwood Fire Department will also be helping out, providing refreshments after the parade to firefighters and the public.

Ruff said the Woodstock Fire Department started the parade last year, when a firefighter who’d been on a New Hampshire fire department told them about the parade his department had held.

Ruff said there were hundreds of spectators on the first year, and this year people have been calling the department asking when this year’s parade will take place.

The Fire Department will pass out fire safety literature after the parade.

Ruff said any fire departments interested in participating need only to show up. The trucks will start lining up at 6 p.m. The town will redirect Route 26 traffic around the downtown during the parade.
