MINOT — Selectmen voted Monday to continue having the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office provide emergency dispatch services to the town.
County commissioners sent selectmen a letter requesting that the board let them know by Nov. 21 whether the town would agree to accept newly developed terms for the services.
According to the agreement, Minot would be assessed $11,731.50 for the Sheriff’s Office to be the town’s public safety answering point, handling its 911 calls and providing fire and emergency dispatch.
The new terms are based on a formula that charges the town $2.50 per capita for fire and emergency dispatch and $2 per capita for handling 911 calls.
In other business, town Administrator Arlan Saunders told the board he is still working with the town’s attorney, Norm Rattey, and Code Enforcement Officer Ken Pratt, trying to sort out the status of developer Chuck Starbird’s request for a building permit for property that lies beyond the town-accepted section of York Road.
Last spring, following a Maine Supreme Judicial Court decision that ruled that Starbird was entitled to a building permit on a lot that he owned on the unaccepted portion of York Road, the town granted Starbird his permit.
Afterward, Starbird sought permits to build on two other lots, along the same stretch of unaccepted road.
Pratt denied Starbird’s request, and in the months since Starbird has requested a hearing before the Board of Appeals. However, according to Saunders, there appear to be questions on the ownership of the parcels that Starbird wants to build on.
The latest issue involves the records of the transfer of the 55-acre Franchetti parcel to Starbird.
“(Attorney) Norm (Rattey) has yet to respond to me regarding setting up an appeal hearing,” Saunders said. “It is not certain that all is in order.”
Noting the approach of Thanksgiving Day, Selectman Eda Tripp asked that residents interested in donating nonperishable goods for the Thanksgiving boxes that she helps prepare should bring their donations to the town office by Nov. 14.
